**Position Overview**

The Platform for Peace and Humanity is expanding its team with Junior OSINT investigators. This is a voluntary and unpaid position suitable for early to mid-career professionals with a demonstrable interest in open-source investigations relevant to the Platform's work, covering—but not limited to—the following thematic areas: international crimes and accountability, armed conflicts and peace & security and corporate accountability.

The selected candidate will support ongoing investigations and monitoring across the Platform's regional programmes, contribute to research outputs, and help strengthen the Platform's methodological practices in open-source intelligence.

Our investigative work follows the standards set out in the Berkeley Protocol on Digital Open-Source Investigations.

**Duties & Responsibilities**

- Open-source research: Collect, verify, and archive information from publicly available sources, including social media, satellite imagery, corporate and trade registries, sanctions databases, and official records and regional-language media.
- Verification and geolocation: Geolocate and chronolocate visual material (photos, videos, satellite imagery), cross-reference claims, and assess the reliability of sources.
- Corporate investigations: Trace company ownership structures, beneficial owners, and corporate networks across jurisdictions using tools such as OpenCorporates, OCCRP Aleph, national business registries, and leaked datasets; map supply chains and identify links to sanctioned entities or individuals of interest.
- Investigation support: Contribute to ongoing investigations by producing evidence summaries, timelines, chain-of-custody documentation, and research briefs.
- Methodology and documentation: Maintain rigorous evidence preservation practices (archiving, metadata capture, audit trails) in line with the Berkeley Protocol and the Platform's ethical and OPSEC standards.
- Knowledge sharing: Contribute to internal tool lists, source databases, and methodological guides; collaborate with colleagues across the Platform on joint outputs.

**Qualifications**

- At least a basic grounding in OSINT techniques, demonstrated through coursework (e.g. Bellingcat, SANS, GIJN), CTFs (e.g. Trace Labs, Quiztime), published work, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Familiarity with core OSINT tools and workflows, e.g., Google Dorks, reverse image search, geolocation, social media monitoring, web archiving (Wayback Machine, archive.today, Hunchly or similar), and basic satellite imagery platforms (Google Earth, Sentinel Hub).
- Thematic interest in at least one of the areas researched by the Platform. Familiarity with relevant open sources is a plus — for example, ICC and UN mechanisms documentation, sanctions lists, OCCRP Aleph, ACLED, EUvsDisinfo, Sentinel Hub, or similar resources depending on the track.
- Strong analytical skills: ability to assess source reliability, reason transparently about uncertainty, and avoid overclaiming.
- Awareness of ethical and safety considerations in OSINT work, including OPSEC, source protection, and the handling of sensitive material
- Basic data-handling skills; knowledge of a coding language (e.g. Python) and advanced spreadsheet knowledge are a plus.
- Good knowledge of English (min. C1). Additional language skills are a strong asset.
- Passion and dedication to the mission and values of the organisation, result-driven commitment, ability to work in an international team and handle uncertain situations with flexibility.
- Willingness to continuously learn and develop new skills.
- Strong time management skills and organised.

**Content Advisory and Duty of Care**

Investigative work in the Platform's thematic areas may involve exposure to distressing material, including imagery or accounts of armed conflict, violence, and human rights abuses. Applicants should be aware that there may be a requirement to review graphic content.
